ABOUT THE PROJECT
This project used creative activities, artistic and imagination games, as methods for non-formal education, with the objective to empower the children from disadvantaged households, to promote social solidarity and the concept of diversity as a resource for all and for each of us.
Between 1st of October and 30th June 2008, the project team worked with 60 children from 2 schools in Ferentari, the most problematic neighbourhood of Bucharest. Organized in small mixed groups, the pupils developed in a playful manner their drawing skills, musical skills, crafting skills, photographic talent and creative writing, linguistic skills (playing in Romanian, English and French).
Each group was guided by a young „trainer” (from the Komunitas team) with qualifications in the respective artistic field. Each group functioned on democratic principles and as a „education through partnership” relation – with the main focus on exploring and illustrating cultural diversity.
Each team will made regular field trips in the city and around the city, in order to get inspiration sources and to explore the diversity further and performed regular public presentations of the created artistic products. Thus, young people from different social context and from different generations got in contact, experiencing diversity as a game for all to win – which corresponded to our main goal.
By the end of the project, around 60 pupils became aware that each of us can contribute, through imagination and creativity, to the future of a better Europe. On the other hand, our young public understood that diversity is precious, as a reason for solidarity.
The project was financed by European Commission, through Youth in Action Programme, Action 1.2, National Initiatives.
